Class A Girls
100 Meter Dash
Williamstown's Shelby Smith sped away from the competition over the last 70 meters for the easy win in 12.76. No
one else was under 13 seconds. Teammate Brookelyn Reynolds too the 2nd spot in 13.07. Doddridge's Payton
Currey parlayed a strong start to a 3rd place finish in 13.23. One of my predicted placers scratched the event. The
one I picked 9th did score a place. Smith's 12.52 in the trials is the 7th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance
RunWV's Current Score: 7 of 8.
200 Meter Dash
Williamstown's Shelby Smith ran away from the field in the straight and narrowly missed a State Meet Record. Her 25.67
clocking is the 5th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Teammate Brookelyn Reynolds ran an excellent
turn and easily held the 2nd spot in 26.30. Magnolia's Jenna Blain was a very strong 3rd in 26.80. Only Doddridge's
Payton Currey was able to join them under 27.50 seconds with a 27.59.
RunWV's Current Score: 13-16.
400 Meter Dash
Williamstown's Shelby Smith dominated the competition, making up the stagger on everyone to her outside by the half-way
point (and all but one by 150 meters) and took the win by over 2 seconds in 57.11. That gives her the 5th Best All-Time Class
A State Meet Performance. Teammate Brookelyn Reynolds easily outpaced the rest of the field with a 59.36 clocking that
was nearly 2 seconds ahead of everyone else. Trinity's Sofia Pancoast ran a strong 2nd half to control the 3rd spot
in 1:01.21. Only Doddridge's Payton Trentjoined them under 1:03 with a 1:02.49. Charleston Catholic's Gabbie Custer
snagged 5th place from the 1st heat.
RunWV's Current Score: 21 of 24.
800 Meter Run
Doddridge's Lexi Lamb led the field out of the break with the pack close behind. At 200 meters, it was Lamb, Williamstown's
Alyssa Sauro, Williamstown's Brianna Winsett and Wood County Christian's Lacey Dimit in a single file
line at the front. Sauro moved to the front at about 340 meters as she and Lamb began to separate from the field. Sauro
led the field across the line at 1:09 with Lamb right behind in 1:10. Winsett was in 3rd at 1:12 with one of the Charleston
Catholic girls right beside her in 4th. St. Marys' Virginia Haddox was in 5th with Dimit in 6th also at 1:12. Williamstown's Ava Lightfritz
was in 7th with another of the Charlston Catholic girls in 8th also at 1:12. On the backstretch, Sauro started to get away from Lamb as the pair continued to
distance themselves from the rest of the field. Haddox had moved into 3rd with about 200 to go with a long string of
contenders behind her. Over the final 200, Sauro would pull away for the 4+ second win in 2:20.82, giving her the 9th
Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Lamb would easily hold the 2nd spot in 2:24.97. Haddox kept the 3rd
spot in 2:26.15. Lightfritz closed well to move into 4th at 2:26.84. Dimit held off Trinity's Sofia Pancoast for
5th 2:27.28 to 2:27.77. Winsett held onto the 7th position at 2:28.95. Doddridge's Katie Cottrill made a pass just
before the line to steal the 8th scoring position in 2:29.97.
RunWV's Current Score: 28 of 32.
1600 Meter Run
St. Marys' Virginia Haddox led the field out of the break with the Williamstown duo of Brianna Winsett and
Ava Lightfritz close behind. At the 200 meter mark, Doddridge's Lexi Lamb moved into the lead with Williamstown's
Alyssa Sauro moving into the 2nd spot. Lamb would hold the lead through the lap, coming through in 1:13 with Sauro
right at her side. Winsett was in the 3rd position at 1:16 with Haddox and Lightfritz matching that time right behind her.
Charleston Catholic's Bella Boggs was in the 6th spot at 1:17 with Trinity Christian's Jenna Barnett in 7th
at 1:18. I'm not sure who was in 8th. It may have been St. Marys' Natalie Bartrug. Sauro would edge to the front
on the backstretch and start to generate a gap over the 2nd half of the lap. Sauro led through the halfway point at 2:29
with Lamb in 2nd at 2:30. The pair had opened a large gap on the field. Haddox was in 3rd at 2:41 with Lightfritz, Winsett,
and Boggs in tow, all matching that time. Barnett remained in 7th at 2:44. Doddridge's Katie Cottrill had moved into
the 8th spot at 2:45. Lap 3 saw Sauro take firm control of the race as the came through in 3:45. Lamb was well ahead of the
field in 2nd at 3:52. Boggs had moved into the 3rd position in the 2nd half of the lap, coming through at 4:04. Haddox was
in 4th at 4:05. Lightfritz was in 5th at 4:06. Winsett was in 6th at 4:08. Cottrill had moved into 7th at 4:12. Barnett
was holding onto the 8th spot but was matched by teammate Evangelia Berry at 4:14. On the final lap, Sauro would extend
her lead, taking the win in 5:00.42, which stands as the 3rd Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Lamb would
easily hold the 2nd spot in 5:12.28, which is the 10th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Boggs held the 3rd
spot in 5:20.90. I knew not picking her to place was going to bite me, especially when she split 2:23 in the 4x800. Haddox
took the 4th spot in 5:22.28. Lightfritz held the 5th position in 5:29.16. Cottrill closed well to move up to the 6th spot
in 5:32.69. Winsett held 7th in 5:33.71. Berry took the final spot in 5:37.08.
RunWV's Current Score: 35 of 40.
3200 Meter Run
St. Mary's Virginia Haddox led the field out of the break with Williamstown's Brianna Winsett in 2nd. Williamstown's
Alyssa Sauro moved to the front at about 200 meters, and Doddridge's Lexi Lamb followed her through into 2nd.
The pair would quickly open a gap on the field with Sauro leading through the 1st lap in 1:19 and Lamb matching that time in
2nd. Haddox was in 3rd at 1:24 with Winsett matching that time in 4th. There was someone else with them. It may have been
Summers' Sarah Turner in 5th. Charleston Catholic's Bella Boggs was in 6th at 1:25 with Trinity
Christian's Jenna Barnett right behind in 7th. I think 8th was James Monroe's Katie Collins at 1:26. After 2
laps, it was Sauro at 2:36 and Lamb at 2:37 with the pair now well away from the field. Boggs had moved up to 3rd at 2:55
with Winsett and Haddox matching that in 4th and 5th. I think Turner was in 6th at 2:56. Trinity Christian's Evangelia
Berry had moved up into the 7th position at 2:57 with Collins in 8th also at 2:57. On lap 3, Sauro took control of the
race, maintaining her pace and coming through in 3:54. Lamb was still firmly in 2nd at 4:00. The real race was talking place
in the pack as there were 7 girls still fighting for 6 placing spots. Winsett was in 3rd at 4:25 with Boggs in 4th matching
that time. Berry was up to 5th in 4:26 with Haddox in 6th, Turner in 7th, and Doddridge's Katie Cottrill in 8th all at 4:26.
At the halfway point, Sauro stayed on pace, coming through at 5:13. Lamb controlled 2nd in 5:27. The camera didn't catch the
rest, so going from notes, I have Boggs and Haddox at 5:55, Winsett and Berry at 5:56, Cottrill at 5:57 and Barnett back up
to 8th at 5:59. At the end of lap 5, Sauro was in the lead at 6:32, and Lamb was in 2nd at 6:55. The camera again didn't
catch the remaining places. I have Boggs at 7:28, Haddox at 7:29, Berry at 7:30, Cottrill at 7:31, and Barnett at 7:33. I
didn't get a time down for Winsett. She was right in the mix with Boggs, Haddox, and Berry I believe. Sauro finished lap
6 at 7:52 with Lamb in 2nd at 8:25. Boggs was in 3rd at 9:02 with Haddox matching that time in 4th. Winsett was in 5th at
9:06. Berry was in 6th at 9:08. Cottrill was in 7th at 9:10 with Barnett in 8th at 9:11. Sauro finished lap 7 at 9:15 with
Lamb in 2nd at 9:54. Boggs held a slight edge over Haddox for 3rd with both at 10:32. Winsett was in 5th at 10:42. Berry
was in 6th at 10:46 with Barnett up to 7th at 10:47 and Cottrill in 8th at 10:49. Sauro powered through the finish at 10:33.25.
That gives her the 7th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance.
She lapped all but the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place runners in the race (and almost got 3rd and 4th). Lamb easily held the 2nd spot
at 11:15.41, which is the 10th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Boggs got away from Haddox to take the
3rd spot in 11:52.43. Haddox was 4th in 11:53.70. Winsett was caught by Barnett but found one last burst to take the 5th
spot in 12:09.33 to Barnett's 12:09.83. Cottrill nipped Berry at the line for 7th, 12:19.59 to 12:19.61.
RunWV's Current Score: 43 of 48.
100 Meter High Hurdles
Magnolia's Jenna Blain won an extremely close one after being in 3rd as late as halfway through the race. She came
down off the last hurdle in 2nd but used her speed to edge Ritchie's Marissa Scott for the win by just 0.01. Blain
ran a 16.05 and Scott ran a 16.06. Doddridge's Abby McDonough was in the mix for the first half and secured 3rd in
16.52. Paden City's Mady Still and Petersburg's Sophia Hardy joined them under 17 seconds with Still going
16.75 and Hardy going 16.80.
RunWV's Current Score: 50 of 56.
300 Meter Low Hurdles
Magnolia's Jenna Blain started moving away at hurdle 3 and sped to the 2 second win in 46.66. Doddridge's Abby
McDonough overcame a couple bad stutters down the stretch to hold the 2nd spot in 48.67. Charleston Catholic's
Hannah Fisher was a close 3rd in 48.90. Ritchie's Marissa Scottt ran 50.06 for 4th, and Pocahontas' Jessica
Armstrong went 50.29 for 5th.
RunWV's Current Score: 56 of 64.
4x100 Meter Relay
The Doddridge foursome of Abby McDonough, Jaycee Lipscomb, Payton Trent, and Payton Currey held off a late push by
Williamstown to take the title 52.20 to 52.60. The two were over a second ahead of the rest of the field with only James
Monroe going under 54 seconds among the rest of the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 64 of 72.
4x200 Meter Relay
The Williamstown group of Addisyn Kerby, Izzy Zide, Sydney Anderson, and Shelby Smith scored the come-from-behind
win in 1:51.22 with Smith moving them from 3rd to 1st with a blistering anchor leg. Magnolia slipped up into the 2nd spot
late to finish in 1:52.17 with Wheeling Central in 3rd at 1:52.28. Those three were over 2 seconds ahead of the rest of
the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 70 of 80.
4x400 Meter Relay
After one leg, it appeared to be Trinity, Doddridge, Ritchie, ad Charleston Catholic leading the way. After two legs, it
was Trinity, Doddridge, Charleston Catholic, Ritchie, and Williamstown. Doddridge moved to the lead about 100 meters into
the 3rd leg. They opened a gap, but it closed up late in the leg. Doddridge still led through 3 legs with Trinity in 2nd.
Charleston Catholic and Ritchie held the 3rd and 4th positions. Trinity would move to even during the final turn and Sofia
Pancoast would power away to give the group of Cora Friend, Jenna Barnett, Rylan Sharp, and Sofia Pancoast the win
in 4:19.53. Doddridge held the 2nd spot in 4:20.70. Charleston Catholic controlled 3rd in 4:28.83. Williamstown came back
up to 4th in 4:33.14. Ritchie was 5th in 4:34.48.
RunWV's Current Score: 76 of 88.
4x800 Meter Relay
Williamstown took the early lead with Ava Lightfritz giving them a 2:21 opening leg. Charleston Catholic was close
behind with Bella Boggs giving them a 2:23 opener. Doddridge was in 3rd at 2:34. St. Marys was in 4th at 2:36 with
Ritchie in 5th at 2:38. Williamstown continued to lead through 2 legs, coming through at 4:50. Charleston Catholic was
close behind at 4:51. Doddridge was in control of 3rd in 5:08 with Ritchie up to 4th in 5:14. St. Marys was in 5th at 5:21
with Tucker and East Hardy at 5:23. Charleston Catholic made the pass on leg 3 to move into the lead at 7:23. Williamstown
was in 2nd at 7:26. Doddridge remained in 3rd at 7:47. St. Marys was up to 4th in 8:07 with Ritchie in 5th. Tucker was in
6th at 8:16. Williamstown got a 2:15.8 split from Alyssa Sauro to retake the lead and distance themselves. The 9:42.46
for the foursome of Ava Lightfritz, Brianna Winsett, Alexis Wynn, and Alyssa Sauro set a new Class A State Meet
Record and stands as the Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Charleston Catholic ran an exceptional
race for 2nd, and their 9:50.14 for the group of Bella Boggs, Hannah Fisher, Mary Rushworth, and Gabby Custer is the
4th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Doddridge easily held the 3rd spot in 10:16.74. Ritchie ran a strong
4th in 10:31.39 with St. Marys 5th in 10:38.04. No one else was under 11:00.
RunWV's Current Score: 83 of 96.
Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Charleston Catholic broke away on the 3rd leg and the squad of Hannah Sullivan, Hannah Fisher, Gabrielle Custer, and Palmer
Brown pulled away to win by nearly 2 seconds in 1:08.95. Tygarts Valley was a strong 2nd in 1:10.77. Those two were far
away from the field with Magnolia in 3rd in 1:12.93 and Paden City 4th in 1:13.07. Clay-Battelle and Tyler Consolidated
scored 5th and 6th also under 1:14. No one else was under 1:15.
RunWV's Current Score: 90 of 104.
High Jump
A trio of jumpers cleared 5'0, but only Wheeling Central's Alexa Loy got there with no misses to take the win. Richwood's
Carlee Dillard also cleared 5'0 on her 1st attempt, but a miss at 4'10 dropped her to 2nd place. Buffalo's Chloe
Hale cleared 5'0 on her 2nd attempt for 3rd place. Only Tygarts Valley's Felicity Walden was the only other jumper
to clear 4'10 to take 4th.
RunWV's Current Score: 97 of 112.
Pole Vault
Doddridge's Abby McDonough became a 3 time Champion and sailed through 10'6 with no misses for the win. That gives her
a tie for the 5th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. Ritchie's Sydney Kopshina and Williamstown's
Izzy Zide tied for 2nd at 9'0 with both clearing the height on their 2nd attempt and each having 1 miss prior to that.
Williamstown's Grace Boone was the only other vaulter to clear 8'6 in taking 4th.
RunWV's Current Score: 105 of 120.
Long Jump
Cameron's Maci Neely sailed 15'9.25 on her first jump, and no one was able to match it. Magnolia's Sienna McKeever
got close on her 2nd jump with a 15'8.50 for 2nd. Joie Bell went 15'7.25 on her 3rd attempt for 3rd. Richwood's Baylee
Jarrett barely made the final, only getting in on a tie, but sailed 15'7 on her final jump to move from 8th to 4th.
Doddridge's Payton Trent went 15'2.75 on her 1st attempt for 5th. No one else surpassed 15'0. One of my predicted
placers scratched the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 111 of 128.
Shot Put
Williamstown's Kyndra Johnson made it two years in a row with her toss of 35'11.25, which won by over 2'. Doddridge's
A'Kaia Williams scored a 33'10.25 on her first throw of finals to move into the 2nd spot. Williamstown's Reagan
Corbett was 3rd with a 33'6.25. Gilmer's Kiley Richards threw 33'5 on her first attempt and held the 4th
spot. Sherman's Autumn Buzzard sent her 2nd throw 33'2.50, good for 5th. No one else was over 32'0. One of my
predicted placers scratched the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 117 of 136.
Discus
Williamstown's Reagan Corbett dominated the field with all 4 of her legal throws better than what anyone else threw.
Her 120'6 toss bettered the field by over 17'. Ritchie's Macy Hilvers was the only other one to top 100' with his
throw of 103'2. Richwood's Chloe Cox was 3rd with an opening toss in 97'8. Hundred's Areonna Zarco edged
Petersburg's Rhenn Hedrick 96'6 to 96'4 for 4th. Tyler Consolidated's Sydney Deaton was the only other thrower to surpass 95'.
RunWV's Current Score: 123 of 144.
The final score of 123 of 144 means that 85.4% of the people picked to place did indeed place. In the first year of placing 8 deep, I think that's pretty good. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
